Responsibilities

As the Safer Recruitment and Serving Coordinator, you will be responsible for administering the recruitment (also known as Safer Recruitment) of church family members into serving partner (volunteering) roles. This will involve getting to know and working closely with the church family, ministers and staff. You will fill a wide range of regular and one-off roles, so you will work closely with different ministries to make sure that serving roles are filled in a timely manner. You will also participate in weekly Congregation Meetings and Staff Meetings. Safer Recruitment and People Management are integral to keeping people safe in the Church. The Church of England's safeguarding policy statement 'Promoting a Safer Church' outlines the Church's commitment to promoting a safe environment and culture across all Church bodies for children and vulnerable adults. All Souls Church aims to fulfil this commitment by setting out safer recruitment/appointment processes and ensuring continued vigilance once someone is in the role. 'Safer Recruitment and People Management' goes beyond simply obtaining a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) Certificate. The danger is that too much reliance will be placed on CRB [DBS] checks. There is a concern that many abusers do not have convictions and that no intelligence is held about them. Therefore, the selection and recruitment process, if properly conducted, is an important, indeed essential, safeguard.
