We are seeking an Assistant minister to work closely with our Rector in pastoring the church family. This is a senior role and would come with significant responsibility, particularly in teaching, discipleship and pastoral care.
The Assistant minister will: - Alongside the Rector & Women's pastoral worker, share in the task of pastoral oversight across the whole of the church family - Lead services and other meetings, and regularly preach and teach on Sundays and in other ministries of the church - Be involved in regular discipleship and pastoral care of the church family Dependent on gifts and skills, other ministry areas might include: - Oversight of our small groups ministry and training - Oversight of our children's and youth ministry - Involvement in developing our music ministry - Leading and developing our community engagement projects - Developing and implementing an evangelistic strategy
The church family is prayerfully seeking a man who has a living relationship with and commitment to Jesus Christ and is dependent on the Holy Spirit. He should be: - An evangelical seeking to exercise an expository biblical ministry, in line with the 39 Articles, who is complementarian by conviction - An able communicator, gifted in teaching and preaching Scripture, engagingly and faithfully, as the authoritative word of God - Committed to personal prayer and encouraging heartfelt prayerfulness within church life - Able to demonstrate an aptitude for discipleship and evangelism in a multicultural, multi-age, urban environment, and able to demonstrate some previous experience in one or more of the ministry areas above - Approachable, warm-hearted and sensitive to the challenges of serving in a diverse community and church family Our preference is for a minister ordained in the Church of England, however we would welcome applications from those currently in ministry outside of the Church of England. There is a Genuine Occupational Requirement (GOR) for the successful applicant to be a Christian and this GOR applies under the Equality Act 2010.
About St Nicholas St Nicholas is a medium-sized, diverse, local church in Tooting, south-west London. Tooting is a bustling and vibrant community, with a strong local identity, home to a wide range of culturally diverse communities and is well located for multiple public transport links to the rest of the city. Our church family at St Nicholas reflects our local community and comprises families, young professionals and native Londoners from all backgrounds. This part of south-west London is a great mix of urban environments and green spaces, such as Tooting and Wimbledon Commons and Richmond Park. We have a strong youth and children's ministry (around 70 under 18s in our Sunday programmes) as well as active adult ministries for a variety of ages (18¬–35, 35+, over 60s) and a programme of cross-cutting small groups which meet together for bible study and fellowship. St Nicholas is well connected with our local community and host events throughout the year, such as a Christmas fair, Pumpkin party and Easter egg trails. We also host community groups throughout the week for parents and pre-school children and over 60s. Our beliefs We would best be described as conservative evangelical Anglican church. We are in the Diocese of Southwark and are also under the extended oversight of the Bishop of Ebbsfleet, Rob Munro. As we love and follow Christ, we strive to love each other and reach the world on our doorstep. We are committed to expository teaching of the Scriptures and to following the Bible's teaching, even when it conflicts with prevailing views in our culture.
