The responsibilities of the church manager are set out below. Training will be provided on church systems and processes. Strategic Support Actively analyse, develop and simplify operational processes. Ensure church activities adhere to established policies from St Nicholas, the Church of England and UK law, including Church of England administration and maintaining official records. Sunday Services Management Oversee administrative elements of Sunday morning worship, including finalisation of service materials, rota management and building setup. Be available to answer administrative questions from church family. Communication & Digital Presence Compose and distribute the weekly newsletter and monthly prayer diary. Oversee church publicity, including promotion materials, social media posting and basic website updates. Administration & Systems Manage ChurchSuite (church calendar and database) and provide training to church members. Handle basic financial administration, including logging bills and paying invoices. Undertake essential IT-related tasks using 3rd party support as required. Manage onboarding of new staff, in co-ordination with the HR support. Events & Community Engagement Coordinate facility bookings and liaise with regular hirers. Coordinate annual community events (Pumpkin Party, Easter Trail, Christmas Events) with the staff team. Building and Facilities Support Work with the buildings committee to arrange maintenance and repairs, including management of utility providers. Ensure compliance with Health and Safety policies and legal requirements. Complete practical tasks including AV operation, event setup, heating management, printing and ordering supplies.
The Church Manager would be responsible for managing the day to day running of church office. The ideal candidate would have with a good understanding of church life, have experience in office administration and volunteer co-ordination, and be comfortable interacting with the wider church family. They should be a mature committed Christian, have proven leadership and interpersonal skills and be (or happy to become) a committed member of the St Nicholas church family.
Full-time is strongly preferred – 37.5 hours. Requests for part time working may be considered from candidates who meet the person specification. As a minimum working time must cover Sunday mornings and at least 4 out of 5 weekdays. St Nicholas is a medium-sized, diverse, local church in Tooting, south-west London. Tooting is a bustling and vibrant community, with a strong local identity, home to a wide range of culturally diverse communities and is well located for multiple public transport links to the rest of the city. Our church family at St Nicholas reflects our local community and comprises families, young professionals and native Londoners from all backgrounds. This part of south-west London is a great mix of urban environments and green spaces, such as Tooting and Wimbledon Commons and Richmond Park. We have a strong youth and children's ministry (around 70 under 18s in our Sunday programmes) as well as active adult ministries for a variety of ages (18–35, 35+, over 60s) and a programme of cross-cutting small groups which meet together for bible study and fellowship. St Nicholas is well connected with our local community and host events throughout the year, such as a Christmas fair, Pumpkin party and Easter egg trails. We also host community groups throughout the week for parents and pre-school children and over 60s.
