Lead the church's ministry to young people, encouraging and developing a team of volunteers. Effectively communicate the gospel to young people and help them grow in their faith through relevant Bible teaching, pastoral care and community building

Responsibilities

- Engage with and proactively apply the mission for children and young people at Union Baptist Church and together with the C&YP ministry team develop strategy for this to be worked out: With God's help through prayer, to build an engaging, fun and caring environment so that children, young people, leaders and families equip each other to grow in faith as they: o Hear about Jesus o Learn through the Bible o Know Jesus personally o Tell others about Jesus - To lead a team of volunteer youth leaders; identifying and releasing gifting among them. - To spend time in prayer weekly for the young people and the volunteer leader team. - To regularly pray with volunteer leaders encouraging them in the work of being examples of and clearly presenting the gospel to young people so that they become disciples of Jesus. - To oversee and assist with coordination of weekly activities for Young people: - Teaching in Sunday morning groups - Leading occasional age engagements (4-8 minute slot within Sunday morning service) - Participation in planning all age services - Leading Chill (Friday evening youth club) - To plan, coordinate and review what is being taught in conjunction with the Associate Pastor and Deacon for Youth and Young Adults to shape the curriculum across all youth activities over the year. - To efficiently carry out administration related to the role. Discipling young people in the church - To act as a disciple maker amongst young people - To model being a disciple of Jesus in living, speaking and serving - To build relationships and maintain communication with young people and their parents/carers. - Identify the gifts, interests and talents of young people and encourage them to be released for Christian service. - To source youth teaching materials and develop ways for this material to be taught and presented in creative ways - To regularly lead services with the young people - Take an active part in leading Easter Holiday Clubs with a focus on developing links with Years 5 and 6 and the young people who volunteer at the club. - Organise and lead Young people's weekends and days away, prayer events and organise activities for young people at church Away Days, Weekends and other special events. - Encourage school leavers in their transition into the wider church fellowship and into the Young Adults ministry of the church. Mission and Community - Facilitate and encourage young people to attend Christian holiday camps and other local Christian events. - Encourage the young people of the church to engage in sharing God's love in practical ways with the local community. - Support young people serving in Holiday clubs and other church activities for children e.g. Discoverers - Build relationships with youth leaders from other churches in the local area; work with them on running town wide youth events e.g. Encounter, Recharge

Required skills

- To have experience working with young people - To be educated to diploma or degree level [desirable] and to have undertaken youth/ministry training or have experience working with young people - Experience of organising and attending a range of events including weekends away and Christian camps. - To hold a full, clean driving licence [desirable] Skills - Able to communicate, teach and apply the Bible into the lives of young people both within and beyond Union Baptist Church in a lively and engaging way. - To demonstrate leadership skills. - To have good interpersonal skills and ability to work with and enthuse volunteers. - To be able to use their own initiative and have organisational and motivational skills. - Be computer literate and familiar with the use of social media. - Demonstrate basic numeracy and budgeting skills. - To be able to manage both work and personal time and able to work flexible hours.
