Lead the church's ministry to children and young families to enable children and young families to encounter Jesus through engaging Bible teaching, reaching out into local schools and the community.

Responsibilities

Engage with and proactively apply the mission for children and young people at Union Baptist Church and together with the C&YP ministry team develop strategy for this to be worked out: With God's help through prayer, to build an engaging, fun and caring environment so that children, young people, leaders and families equip each other to grow in faith as they: o Hear about Jesus o Learn through the Bible o Know Jesus personally o Tell others about Jesus - To be an example to children and their families of a follower of Jesus - To spend time weekly in prayer for the children and young families and volunteer leaders of UBC - Provide coordination of children's work on the premises for under 11s and their families both on Sundays and during the week. - Encourage the church to pray for children and young families - Advocate for children in the church, ensuring they are always considered and valued in the life of the church. - Build, support and encourage our team of children and young families volunteers - Organise team building and training activities to develop a sense of unity and grow confidence in the team - Network with people involved in children's ministry in other local churches - Follow all relevant policies of the church Church activities - Coordinate and/or lead seasonal events – o Light party o Christmas party o Easter holiday club o Summer weekend camp o Children's programme at church 'weekend at home' - Rotate around the Sunday morning 'iSearch' groups, doing Bible teaching, getting to know children and leaders - Participate in leading the weekly babies and toddlers group, assist with set-up/set-down, building relationships with parents and engaging with children. - Assist leading 'Discoverers' Friday afternoon club, providing clear and relevant Bible teaching on rotation with team of volunteers - Take part in and encourage participation in external summer camps e.g. WEC Warrior camp - Identify resources to be used in various groups and activities - Occasionally lead all age engagements (5 minute interactive item) in Sunday services - Occasionally lead all age services Admin and Communication - Ensure appropriate documented records are maintained. - Use Churchsuite to maintain records, organise rotas and set up events (training provided) - Work with the admin team to develop the relevant pages of the website and produce social media content aimed at young families. Mission and Community - Visit local primary schools to provide and develop RE lessons, assemblies and after school clubs. - Explore and establish new activities with children and families as appropriate, developing ministries to reach families who are not currently in contact with the church. - Organise 'explore the church' visits with local schools coming along to learn about what happens in the church building.

Required skills

- To have proven experience working with children - To be educated to diploma/degree level (desirable) and to have undertaken children's ministry training or have experience working with children - (desirable) Experience of organising and attending a range of events including weekends away and Christian camps. - (desirable) To hold a full, clean driving licence Skills - Able to communicate, teach and apply the Bible into the lives of children both within and beyond Union Baptist Church in a lively and engaging way. - Able to lead a team, communicate vision and draw on the skills, gifting and experience of team members. - To have good interpersonal skills and ability to work with and enthuse volunteers. - To be able to use their own initiative and have organisational and motivational skills. - Be computer literate and familiar with the use of social media. - Demonstrate basic numeracy and budgeting skills. - To be able to manage both work and personal time and able to work flexible hours.
