Ministry Trainee / Intern

Ministry trainee

Asha Tower Hamlets (E14 7LW)

Date posted: 3rd February 2025
Application ends: 30th June 2025

"Asha" means "hope" in Sylheti and since autumn 2021 we have been meeting on Sunday afternoons, with our meetings operating in both English and Sylheti-languages. We would love interns to join us offering the hope of Jesus to our surrounding community.

Responsibilities

In addition to receiving training through the Cornhill Training Course and within Asha on cross-cultural issues, the activities and responsibilities any intern has will on their gifts. In addition to Sundays, we have different ministries and activities which people can serve in. For example, we have an arts and crafts drop in for women, ESOL teaching, book tables, Facebook outreach, visiting homes and businesses, and organising tours of the British Museum. We serve in our bookshop and library, and simply hang out in the community. In each of these different areas, everyone is expected to be able to open up the Bible with the people they are meeting.

Required skills

Any intern will need to be willing to integrate fully into Asha, its team and community work; to be organised, punctual and flexible; and always willing to listen and able to say no with grace. Experience of cross-cultural work generally or among Bangladeshi people specifically would be great, but not essential. Experience of teaching the Bible in some capacity is necessary.

Other

Asha is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. All post holders and volunteers are expected to share this commitment. All appointments to the role of intern are subject to acceptable pre-appointment checks, including a satisfactory Enhanced DBS check. An occupational requirement applies in terms of the Equality Act (part 1, schedule 9). This post requires the occupant to have a personal faith in Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord, and to believe that the Bible is fully trustworthy in all that it affirms, and the highest authority for faith and life in keeping with this statement of faith: https://ashatowerhamlets.org/what-we-believe/ (and associated links on that page). These principles are a requirement alongside the professional skills needed for this role. Applications can only be considered from those who are UK citizens or who otherwise have a right to work in the UK. If you would like to know more about being an intern, please email at us: robert@ashatowerhamlets.org If you would like to visit Asha, we would be very happy to meet you and to explain things further face-to-face.
