We are a young conservative evangelical church in the City of London, with a Sunday congregation and four midweek ministries. The Assistant Minister will support the ministry in preaching, discipleship, evangelism and practical leadership responsibilities.
With flexibility depending on gifting and experience. Midweek lunchtime talk ministry: - Preach regularly across two of the four lunchtime talk ministries, where London Bridge & Victoria, and Fleet Street & St Nick's follow the same preaching schedule each week. - Lead all practical aspects of one of the lunchtime talk ministries including setting up, leading meetings, and communicating relevant notices. Develop and maintain relationships with the venue staff, ensuring the ministry needs of the talks are met. - Maintain a contact database for the lunchtime talk, initiating communication with newcomers and keeping ministry partners informed about upcoming events and other important updates. - Regularly review the lunchtime talk's website and social media and, with support from the Operations Manager, ensure they are up-to-date and valuable resources. - Plan evangelistic lunchtime talk events within the preaching schedule, recruiting visiting speakers and coordinating publicity with the Operations Manager. - Actively seek to promote the lunchtime talk and proclaim the gospel within the local community. - According to opportunity and availability, aim to meet up with at least one individual and read the Bible one-to-one with two men from the lunchtime talks per week. - Lead a weekly morning Partnership group for the lunchtime talk, applying talk truths to partners' working lives, fostering discipleship, and encouraging evangelism amongst colleagues. - Support lunchtime talk partners with workplace ministry, engaging with Christian workplace groups and offering assistance with in-house evangelistic events. - Assist the wider staff team with the practical aspects of setting up for the St Nick's Talks and lead meetings when required. Sunday church ministry: - Lead and preach regularly at Sunday services, alongside the Minister in Charge and Associate Minister. - Attend and contribute to fortnightly preaching and service planning meetings with the teaching staff team. - Organise many of the practical tasks associated with Sunday services including planning service themes, upcoming songs, and slot content. - Lead the oversight of serving teams alongside the Operations Manager, identifying areas of need and potential volunteer recruitment. - If skilled, particular responsibility for managing the music team, selecting new songs, liaising with musicians to coordinate arrangements, and organising annual music training sessions. - Lead the teaching programme for a specific Small Group Bible study stream, including reviewing and updating prep books, arranging a leaders' training day, and planning church family ministry training and prayer slots before and after weekly Bible studies. - Lead a Small Group Leaders' Bible Study group (known as SLOBS), equipping leaders to teach excellent and faithful studies, as well as providing pastoral care to SLOBS group members. - According to opportunity and availability, aim to meet up with at least two different men (including newcomers, follow-ups from events, and fringe members of church family) and read the Bible one-to-one with two men from the church family per week. - Actively seek to promote the Sunday service and proclaim the gospel within the local community. - Assist the teaching staff team in organising the spiritual content of evangelistic ministry events. Attendance at these events is required; to set up, host and clear up with the wider staff team. - Lead the organisation of Christianity Explored courses, including recruiting leaders from within the church family, promoting the course publicly, and communicating details with attendees. - Manage the church bookstall, placing orders, pricing books and reviewing stock. Training and development - Participate in ongoing theological study, personal reflection, and practical ministry training to deepen skills and spiritual maturity, receiving mentorship from the Minister in Charge. - Assist with the supervision and pastoral care of male junior staff members and ministry trainees. - Develop leadership skills in practical ministry settings, preparing for future roles of increased responsibility within church ministry. - Network with other local churches and ministry organisations (such as Gospel at Work and ReNew) to foster partnerships and shared gospel initiatives.
