CCB is a thriving church in south London, part of the Co-Mission network and the Anglican Mission in England. Our congregation is made up of over 200 adults and 50 children. We are seeking to appoint an Assistant Minister to join our existing staff team.

Responsibilities

Depending on experience, under the oversight and in partnership with the senior minister you will be involved in: - Assisting with the Sunday morning preaching duties. - Overseeing our Sunday afternoon training (topical talks, systematic, and biblical theology) - Overseeing our various midweek small groups (arranging the curriculum, providing training, identifying leaders) - Leading your own small group (ensuring pastoral care, sharing your life, encouraging discipleship) - Reading the Bible one-to-one with a broad portfolio of men (particularly unbelievers and future leaders) - Serving on the Pastoral Care team. - Line-manage any male ministry trainees. You will be expected to support the senior minister in a range of duties and tasks expected of a staff member, including: - Attendance at staff prayers (daily), staff meeting (weekly), staff worship (monthly). - Attendance at the monthly church prayer meeting. - Attendance at monthly elders' meetings (initially in a training capacity if not yet ordained). - Attendance at termly leadership lunches with the other elders and deacons. - Practising regular hospitality with members of Christ Church Balham. - Pastoral ministry with members of the church family. - Spending time each week with unbelievers to form evangelistic relationships and model this to the wider church.    As part of your employment, you are also expected to: - Comply with the Co-Mission staff protocols as set out in the Co-Mission Staff Handbook. - If ordained, be licensed and under the charge of our AMiE bishop. - Promote and uphold the ethos of Christ Church Balham, AMiE and Co-Mission, and to support their vision. - Work full time, including some evenings and weekends, but to organise your diary to ensure that you take adequate rest and properly serve your family.

Required skills

Whilst we all need to keep growing in these areas, as a staff member, it is necessary for you to demonstrate: - Experience of, and aptitude in expository preaching, basic systematics and biblical theology. - Experience of, and aptitude in teaching the Bible in a small group setting. - Experience of, and aptitude in one-to-one discipleship. - Experience of, and aptitude in personal evangelism. - Experience of, and aptitude in pastoral care. - Ability to relate to a broad range of people.

- Depending on experience and capacity, a variety of part-time further theological training options are available alongside serving in this role, including Co-Mission Workshop, Cornhill Plus, Crosslands, or Union School of Theology. - If not yet ordained, there is a route for ordination via the Anglican Mission in England. - As well as the annual Co-Mission staff conference and AMiE conference, you may also attend one training conference specific to your role each year, to be paid on expenses. - If you wish, you may attend and lead on one mission trip or children's summer camp each year without using annual leave (but not to commit to any further ministry outside of Christ Church Balham except by arrangement with the senior minister). - This role has an Occupational Requirement to be a Christian, as permitted under Schedule 9, Part 1, of the Equality Act 2010.  - You will be expected to hold to the Anglican, evangelical, and complementarian theology of Christ Church Balham, and as such, we are looking for a suitably qualified man to fill this position.
