Christchurch Durham is an evangelical church in the heart of the city of Durham. We are inviting individuals with a variety of experience in Christian ministry to apply for a full-time open position to support our thriving student ministry.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will oversee and coordinate the pastoral care and training of the female students at Christchurch. The role involves working with the Associate Minister to recruit, train, encourage, and support the student leadership team. The successful candidate will take on the specific responsibility of leading a group of female bible study leaders. The successful candidate will meet individually with students as needs arise for pastoral care and coordinating the involvement of others to provide ongoing support. This position will take an active role in planning and reviewing the program of student events.

Required skills

We are asking the Lord to provide someone who has completed two years in full time Christian ministry (such as on a ministry training scheme) or an equivalent experience serving women in the church. An applicant with this level of experience, or something similar to this, would be appointed as a student worker. We are also keen to invite applicants with considerably more experience in full-time Christian ministry, ideally with formal theological training, to be appointed as an Assistant Minister (students). In particular we are looking for an individual with developing gifts in: The discipleship of students and young adults. The teaching of the Bible both 1-1, in small groups and in larger gatherings. The recruitment and training and leadership of ministry teams. The pastoral care of individuals with a range of struggles. The training and development of ministry workers. The welcoming and integration of newcomers. The building of gospel culture throughout the church family. The organisation and running of ministry events and conferences.

We are asking the Lord to provide someone who is growing in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ, increasingly aware of their sin and loving their saviour, and whose general pattern of life conforms to the qualifications for overseers and under shepherds in 1 Timothy 3, Titus 1, and 1 Peter 5. In particular, we are looking for someone who is: Joyful in the Lord and thankful for all His goodness and grace. Willing to be honest about their struggles and ask for help when they need it. Servant hearted and willing to work hard in the service of the church family. Humble and able to listen to and learn from the perspectives of others. Dependent on the Lord and increasingly dependent on Him in prayer about all things. Courageous and willing to say hard things with gentleness and love. Generally approachable to everyone Flexible and able to adapt to changing situations. If married and with children, then a godly spouse and parent.
