South Glasgow Church (G466DX)

Date posted: 12th September 2023
Application ends: 17th November 2023

SGC is a lively, independent, evangelical church which meets in a local community hall in the centre of Thornliebank. Our vision is to know God and to make Him known in our community, in our city and in our world.

Responsibilities

We are looking for a gifted Bible teacher whose role will involve preaching regularly (probably twice a month) at our Sunday services as well as taking responsibility for organising local and visiting preachers. The person will also take the lead in organising our prayer and life groups which meet mid-week. We are also looking to attract someone who has a passion and gifting in evangelism. There are currently a number of outreach activities in place within the local community which would be overseen by the person appointed. It is expected that the role will involve taking responsibility for pastoral needs within the congregation whilst liaising closely with the other elders. This will include visitation, counselling and encouraging church members in their Christian lives.

Required skills

We are seeking a mature Christian who has been an active church member and who can demonstrate evidence of having had leadership responsibilities. The individual should have a love of the Lord Jesus, His Word, His Gospel, and His Church. The person should also have a godly character as well as a good knowledge and understanding of Scripture. There should be evidence of a clear call to Gospel ministry as well as the ability to share in all the responsibilities of pastoral leadership. The individual should also be a good team player, able and willing to work alongside the other elders in the leadership team. It is desirable (but not essential) that the person has undertaken some form of theological training.

Other

Information about our Statement of Faith and beliefs can be found on our church website at www.southglasgowchurch.org. We are also a member of the Fellowship of Independent Evangelical Churches (FIEC). It is anticipated that the salary package will be in the region of £30,000 and it is likely that there will also be some financial assistance available initially for expenses incurred due to re-location. In line with the Equality Act, it is an occupational requirement that the post-holder is a committed Christian.
