St John's Blackheath (SE3 7TH)

Date posted: 18th June 2023
Application ends: 17th July 2023

Our vision is to grow the church and deepen our commitment to Jesus Christ. To support this, we are seeking to appoint a new Ministry Assistant who is servant hearted and willing to get stuck in. The role would encompass all aspects of church life.

Responsibilities

St. John's Blackheath is a local evangelical parish church in south east London. We believe that our personal relationship with God the Father, through our Lord Jesus Christ, by the Spirit, is at the heart of who we are. Our vision is to grow the church and deepen our commitment to Jesus Christ. There are three aspects to this: REVIVE purposeful refreshing of our hearts (Psalm 85.6) BUILD purposeful building up disciples (Colossians 2.6-7) SPEAK purposeful growing in our witness (Romans 10.14-15) To support this vision, we are seeking to appoint a new Ministry Assistant from Summer 2023, someone who is servant hearted and willing to get stuck in with the life and ministry at St John's. The role would be broad in its scope, encompassing all aspects of church life. We would seek to be flexible, tailoring the role to the right candidate's individual skills and gifts. The role is expected to encompass a training element in order to help develop skills for ministry. The specific nature of the training would depend on the person's experience and skills. We will provide a wide range of experiences of working in a church. Our aim is to equip future leaders with a heart for the gospel. Responsibilities might include: - Involvement in music and sung worship - Helping with youth and children's work - Leading and preaching at services - Help with social media - Technical and operational tasks - General support of the ongoing work of the church

Required skills

Great people skills and a heart for service are essential. Some suitable work experience (paid or unpaid) in another church or Christian organisation, working with young people and children or charity work would be an advantage. The successful candidate will be proactive and keen to work with a wide range of people both inside St John's and out in the local community of Blackheath and beyond. The role would suit someone exploring an interest in future church work.

Other

St John's is an evangelical church in Blackheath, (approximately six miles from central London) with a regular worshipping community of 250 from all ages and backgrounds. We exist to grow disciples of Jesus Christ committed to worshipping God in all aspects of life. This is done through sharing the good news of Jesus Christ and showing concern and love to one another and in our communities. More information is available on our website www.stjohnsblackheath.org.uk. Employment terms: A full time salary commensurate with experience will be offered. Funds would also be made available to support ongoing training and development. If you would like more information or to have an informal conversation about the role, please contact the Vicar Eddie Scrase-Field via email on eddie@stjohnsblackheath.org.uk. Applications should be made to the Vicar with a CV and covering letter by Monday 17th July 2023. Interviews are expected to be held soon afterwards. We are seeking to appoint a full time or part time ministry assistant, which would normally average 35 hours per week if full time. We would consider a part time appointment with reduced responsibilities for the right candidate. In either case, the nature of the job will require a flexible approach to working hours including weekend and evening work. Holiday: Five weeks per year, plus bank holidays (although Christmas and Easter bank holidays may need to be taken in lieu). It would be expected that the substantial majority of the holiday would be taken during the school holidays. Pension contribution: Statutory minimum plus voluntary matching scheme. Permanent post following satisfactory completion of probationary period. Safeguarding: This post is also subject to an enhanced DBS clearance and satisfactory references. Occupational requirement: There is a genuine occupational requirement for the Ministry Assistant to be a practising Christian and able to attend regularly on Sunday.
