Male Worker/ Assistant Minister

Full-time

St Anne's Limehouse (E14 7HP)

Date posted: 26th May 2023
Application ends: 24th August 2023

We seek a male worker to start in September 2023 to join the core staff team of Rector, women & schools worker, and part time operations manager (currently being recruited).

Responsibilities

The core responsibilities will involve adults and young people, and include but not be limited to: - Leading our small youth Bible study group for school years 6-9 and assisting our Key Stage 2after-school club; - Particular responsibility for younger men (currently with their own small group). Depending on training & experience, there will be opportunity for significantly greater responsibility such as: - Regular preaching and service leading, including developing own sermon series and training other preachers; - Overseeing and developing materials for home groups; - Taking responsibility for evening services; - Leading groups for seekers and in basic discipleship; - Leading weekly evangelism and occasional larger outreach events. There will also be some ministry admin and organisational responsibilities.

Required skills

You will be: Essential - A committed Christian man who is living in accordance with the teaching of the church; - With some evidence of gifting for pastoral ministry; - With an enthusiasm for reaching people from a wide variety of different backgrounds. Desirable - Significant experience in pastoral ministry; - Some formal training already received; - Ready to take significant leadership responsibility in church life; - Because the role will include work with youth and younger men, you will likely be in your 20s or 30s; - Broadening the ethnic and/or socio-demographic profile of the church leadership would be a distinct advantage.

Other

Ideally we will appoint someone who has had significant training and experience already, possibly post-theological college. We would be willing to recommend the right candidate for ordination (if they aren't already ordained). - However due to the short timeframe for appointment we are open to considering candidates who have shown ministry potential but have received less training or experience so far. This role may be combined with training, for example on the nearby Cornhill Training Course. Due to the size (approx. 100 adults) and mixed nature of the church, this is an exciting opportunity to test gifts and gain wide experience in church leadership under an experienced pastor, potentially with a view to leading a church yourself in due course. Terms: - Appropriate remuneration will depend on training and experience, to be discussed at interview; - The role will ideally be six days a week (including Sundays), but there is potential to include some formal training and we will consider applications for part-time working or combining with administrative roles at the church; - There will be a probation period of three months; - You will be based between home and the church; - You will report to the Rector, Richard Bray; - St Anne's is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. All post holders and volunteers are expected to share this commitment. All appointments are subject to acceptable pre-appointment checks, including a satisfactory Enhanced DBS Check. Staff policies are available on request. Apply using the application form provided by Friday 23 June; - Shortlisted candidates will be notified by Friday 30 June and interviews will take place w/c 2 July; - The post will ideally start 3 September, subject to your availability, references, DBS and qualifications checks; - There will be a three month probation period; - The initial appointment is for 12 months but we hope the right candidate will stay for at least three years.
