St Mary's is an Anglican conservative evangelical church committed to making Jesus known to people of all ages. Our Ministry Trainees get hands-on experience, make a real impact in the church and community, & are equipped for serving in future.

Responsibilities

Attending a regional ministry trainee scheme (currently in Oxford or London) for one day a week for three ten-week terms, over one year. Being an Assistant Leader for 11-14 age group, currently meeting on Friday and Sunday. Being an Assistant Leader for 14-18 age group, currently meeting on Friday and Sunday. Lead services/meetings and teach (depending on experience). Commit to personal study and preparation. Spend time with the Assistant Minsters for training in character, theology and ministry skills. Serve practically to enable the smooth running of various church meetings. Leader on summer camps supported by St Mary's. Belong to a housegroup, the Connect (20s and 30s) group and attend church prayer meetings. Assist with preparation for Holiday Club – a summer holiday children's week-long event. Assist in another area that you might have specific expertise e.g. social media, creative arts, sport etc.

Required skills

A commitment to gospel-centred ministry and a desire to serve the church. Evidence of an ability to lead and teach in a church context. Evidence of an aptitude for study and personal reading. Good inter-personal skills with people of different ages. Willingness to take initiative, explore new approaches, be creative in communicating the gospel but serve under the direction of others. Good organisation, communication and administrative skills and evidence of reliability. A good understanding and appreciation of the additional needs of young people. An ability to show sensitivity with different people including those facing challenging personal circumstances or responding to controversial issues.
