Pastor

We are looking for a man to take the role of full-time pastor, with some level of experience in a pastoral or leadership position, who shares the convictions and beliefs of the church here.

Responsibilities

- Leadership – as the main pastor accountable for leadership of both the church and the leadership team comprised of the deacons and any future deacons or elders - Pastoral care – visiting, showing care and support, and discipling the membership of the church as needed - Preaching and teaching – regular preaching on the weekly morning and evening services, and supporting and developing the skills of others in this. Leading discussions and Bible studies with the aim of teaching and discipling. - Evangelism and outreach. Supporting the outreach taking place through regular and special events, helping to grow and develop the work of reaching out with the gospel to the local area. Equipping the church to be engaged in this work.

Required skills

Essential skills/attributes: - Being a committed Christian - Fitting the requirements for an Elder found in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1 - Some level of experience in a pastoral/leadership role in a church Desirable skills/attributes: - Experience in different types of urban outreach and evangelism

About Days Lane Baptist Church Days Lane Baptist Church is a Reformed & Evangelical independent Baptist Church in Blackfen, Sidcup, Southeast London. Our church doctrinal basis is aligned with the 1689 Baptist Confession of Faith. We believe in the open offer of the gospel, and also take an open-table (for believers) approach to communion. We are a small fellowship of around 35 members with families and others in the local community joining with us on a regular basis. The church is active in outreach in the local area with children's work, a babies and toddlers group, and special events plus opportunities to work with the nearby school. Our main meetings include morning and evening Sunday services and a midweek Bible study and prayer meeting. We use the ESV translation for readings in our services, though members will use a variety of other translations. Our main hymn book is Christian Hymns (we use both the older and newer editions) and we supplement this with a selection of more recently written hymns as well. The church leadership currently consists of 4 deacons, 2 of whom also preach on a regular basis. We are looking for a full-time pastor to lead and disciple the church and provide regular ministry to the congregation. The church has a large set of buildings near the centre of Blackfen which provides a lot of opportunities for use in outreach events and evangelism. The church also has a 4-bedroom manse situated 2 minutes walk from the church buildings for the use of the full-time pastor.
