We are looking to fill our second Youth Worker post. It is part time (2.5 days) and based in the West End of Glasgow working in partnership with schools, local churches and @SUScotland

Responsibilities

JOB TITLE: Youth worker LINE MANAGER: Designated member of Management Committee - currently Chairperson ROLE: Achieving the aims of the Trust through work in local schools, churches and elsewhere in the community by participating in, co-ordinating and maintaining various aspects of the youth ministry project. PURPOSE: To enable young people aged 8 -18 to explore and experience the Christian faith. LEADERSHIP: Demonstrate to all people, encountering the Wheel Trust ministry, high levels of competence in a range of youth and schools work activities. OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT: An Occupational Requirement applies in terms of the Equality Act (part 1, schedule 9). This post requires the occupant to have a personal faith in Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord, and to believe the Bible to be fully trustworthy, in all that they affirm, and the highest authority for faith and life in keeping with the Wheel Trust statement of Faith. These principles require to be applied alongside the professional skills required in this role which include being a member of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme. PROJECT TASKS: 1. Maintain and develop the pattern of Christian presence in two Glasgow secondary schools (Hyndland Secondary and Hillhead High) and associated primary schools 2. Provide support, training, resources and connection for local voluntary Christian youth and children's workers 3. Seek out appropriate adults to participate in youth work activities, providing encouragement, training and support to such individuals 4. Supported by the Trust management team, maintain relationships with partner churches that foster support for the Wheel Trust 5. Communicate the aims of the Wheel Trust with schools, churches and agencies that are involved with young people in our community 6. To ensure that the recruitment and monitoring of volunteers will be completed in accordance with the appropriate child protection policies and legislation 7. Work in partnership with SU Scotland on projects as agreed with Line Manager, including residential holiday activities 8. Attend the Wheel Trust Management committee to participate in strategic development of the project 9. Attend the Line Management meetings as organised by Line Manager 10. To keep and provide appropriate records and supporting documentation and to produce such reports as may be required by the Line Manager 11. To ensure that all work undertaken is systematically planned, recorded and evaluated using evaluation processes

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR The successful applicant will have experience of schools work and Christian ministry with children and/or young people. You should be based within easy reach of the West End of Glasgow and be prepared to work in partnership with SU Scotland and local Churches. For this post, it is important that you able to demonstrate a commitment to Wheel Trust's ethos, working principles and vision. It is also an Occupational Requirement (Equality Act - part 1, schedule 9), that the post-holder is a committed Christian. The appointment will be subject to a satisfactory PVG Scheme Disclosure.

SALARY Paid a salary in the range £25,000 to £31,000 per year pro rata and as notified annually thereafter. Paid monthly in arrears on or round the 28th of each month. HOURS Flexible working essential with contractual obligation an average 19 hrs per week (0.5 FTE) including possible one or two evenings. These vary in accordance with the fulfilment of your responsibilities and by agreement with your line manager. Reviewed at regular Team meetings to ensure balanced workload and expectations. Time off in Lieu (TOIL) used to replace days off. PENSION There will be employers' contribution of 9% of net salary to an Appropriate pension scheme. LIFE ASSURANCE Free life assurance cover provided at a level 3 times the annual salary. HOLIDAYS The holiday year runs from 1 January to 31 December. Days carried over only by agreement with Line Manager You are entitled to 30 days annual leave, 0.5 FTE = 15 days (This total is inclusive of your entitlement to local & national holidays) SICKNESS Two weeks salary accruable for each year employed up to maximum of ENTITLEMENT 12 week's. Thereafter reduced to half salary rate. EXPENSES Reimbursed for all reasonable expenses incurred, usually claimed Monthly and paid alongside your salary. COMMUNICATIONS Supplied with a laptop with Professional IT Support. EQUIPMENT Reimbursed for use of your mobile phone on Trust activities. DISCIPLINARY These procedures follow SU Scotland current policies. & GRIEVANCE TERMINATION To terminate your employment you are obliged to give the Trustees OF EMPLOYMENT three calendar months' written notice. You will be entitled to one week's notice for each completed year of service up to a maximum of twelve weeks.
