Ministry Intern

Full-time
Includes housing

Gunnersbury Baptist Church (W4 4BE)

Date posted: 14th July 2022
Application ends: 7th August 2022

A 1-year programme (September to July) which focuses on providing teaching opportunities commensurate with the person's experience, in an environment of support and feedback.

Responsibilities

The programme is about being given an 'under the bonnet' experience of church life. It involves a mix of 'on the job' training and formal theological training (probably Cornhill F1 with course fees covered). There is flexibility to make it fit with current experience and skills. Basics include: - Opportunity to taste a variety of church ministries. - Exposure to church leadership. - Opportunities to grow in your teaching ability, with guidance and feedback. - Involvement in leading meetings. - Pastoral visitation. - Ongoing discipleship and personal development. - Accompanying other pastoral team members to various events (FIEC, London Gospel Partnership, etc).

Required skills

Candidates will be mature Christians who believe that God is leading them towards full-time ministry, preferably pastoral ministry in a local (independent) church. They must also have the backing of their own church leaders. They will have a good level of self-motivation. Some people may be at an earlier stage and looking to tentatively 'test the water' of full-time ministry but we are looking for people with greater certainty of future ministry (while recognising that there is no guarantee of that). Other larger schemes exist for those who are more tentatively exploring ministry. We only ask for one thing from you: to serve the church as wholeheartedly as you would serve Christ. Come with a willingness to get stuck in and make the most of the year. And be ready for anything: we are currently off-site for most of 2022 due to major building project. This is not proving to be a barrier to an internship, which is after all, about ministry not buildings. References from those who know your character and ministry experience will be very useful for this application. Including those early on may help speed up the process.

Other

The package would include the option for affordable accommodation in a house approximately two miles away from the church building. Living costs are provided such that, together with the reduced-rate accommodation, it would enable you to live in London. (In accordance with Schedule 9 of the Equality Act 2010, there is a Genuine Occupational Requirement for the successful candidate to be a committed Christian, as you will be expected to lead prayer with individuals as part of your role). Appointment is dependent on the applicant undergoing a successful DBS check.
